The BCLA mission is to safeguard and restore God given liberty and prevent government overreach within Brown County, Kansas. We encourage members to play an active role in shaping their community; thereby, influencing policy at the local, state and national level.
The purpose of BCLA is to organize thoughts, channel energy, and bring awareness to our community through public education and communication with local officials.
BCLA Accomplishments December 2020 – October 2025
- Ran radio ads on KNZA and newspaper ads in the Horton Headlight & Hiawatha World to get the word out about the formation of Brown County Liberty Alliance – BCLA
- Lined up speakers for 7 County Commission meetings and 4 Hiawatha City Council meetings in Dec 2020 through March 2021 regarding freedom of choice during the Covid-19 pandemic and shutdown
- Submitted 11 letters to the editor between Dec 2020 and June 2021 regarding freedom of choice
- Hosted Business of the Week during the shutdown to encourage members to shop at places that allowed freedom of choice while in their business
- Hosted USD 415 & USD 430 President’s Coloring Contest (K-4th grade) to promote patriotism and to increase awareness of BCLA – February 2021
- Hosted an info table, gave out prizes & signed individuals up to receive more info at 2021 Brown Co Fair
- Hosted Michael Austin, economist, scholar, & educator on the subject of Critical Race Theory (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) – August 2021
- Organized Patriot’s Day processional & ceremony on the Court House front steps to honor 20th anniversary of 9-11 and honor ALL Brown County First Responders currently serving – September 2021
- Partnered with Arrow Twin Theatre for 5 free Virtual Tours of the 9-11 Museum & Memorial in New York City
- Hosted meet & greet with Kris Kobach, Attorney General Candidate; Mike Brown, Secretary of State Candidate; and Steven Johnson, State Treasurer Candidate – April 2022
- Participated in door-to-door campaigning for USD 415 Board Member Candidate, John Hoschouer
- Participated in door-to-door campaigning for County Commissioner Candidate Ken Pyle
- Hosted a meet the candidate evening prior to the County Commission Election – July 2022
- Letters to Editor submitted to Horton Headlight and Hiawatha World regarding Critical Race Theory (CRT)
- Presence & speakers at USD 415 Board Meetings and follow-up meeting held with Superintendent & USD 415 Board Member, Ian Sheets, regarding CRT
- Letters to Editor submitted to Horton Headlight and Hiawatha World regarding Industrial Wind Farms and Personal Property Rights
- Published & sent out large size post card mailers regarding industrial wind energy facts to 1,000+ Brown County Citizens in Horton, Hiawatha, Fairview & Robinson zip codes
- Organized a second organization, Blade Watch, to promote personal property rights and deter industrial wind and solar farms from taking root in Brown County
- Decorated a float for the 2021, 2022 & 2024 Brown County Fair Parade; received 1st place in 2022
- Volunteered at the Brown County Fair Food Booth annually since 2022; wearing our shirts & promoting BCLA
- Supported the Value Them Both campaign by helping address mailers with the NEK-ProLife Action League – 2022
- Hosted an informational meeting on EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) attacks with speaker Rowdy Meyer of Holton and Vice-President of EMP Shield – March 2023
- Hosted public meeting with Sheriff John Merchant regarding Illegal Immigration in Brown County following a newspaper article in the Hiawatha World; Upon receiving a last minute invitation from Sheriff Merchant, Attorney General Kris Kobach attended and spoke about the legal guidelines which must be followed – June 2024
- Hosted Angel Cushing & Beth Salmans on land grabs and eminent domain – August 2024
- Spread the word that eminent domain was being used in Brown County & provided moral support to Brown County landowner who was affected by eminent domain regarding the Grainbelt Transmission Line – 2025
- Hosted educational speakers at monthly meetings in 2025
- February – Sean Willcott, State Representative – Presentation with Q&A
- March – Craig Bowser, State Senator – Presentation with Q&A
- April – Stacy Rogers, Governor Candidate in 2026 & Brown County Extension Board members presented on the benefits of forming an Extension District with Atchison & Doniphan Counties
- May – Michael Volker, Brown-Atchison Electric Coop Gen Manager – Solar Energy in Brown County
- June – Trudy Wischropp, founder & teacher of Armor Academy rural Horton, KS
- July – Betty Dvorak – benefits of massage therapy
- October – Pastor Ian Kinney – Motivational presentation “One Nation Under God”
- Ongoing: Encourage members to attend rallies, conferences & learning opportunities related to a variety of freedom loving topics and share back with our group
- Ongoing: Encourage members to continue sending emails or letters and making phone calls to school/city/county/state government leaders, letting their voices be heard
- Encourage members to follow larger regional &/or statewide groups sharing back at our monthly meetings pertinent information they learn and can apply to our community
